Shadowing Day 5

Today Jocelyn was bedazzling a dress with rhinestones. She was trying her best to match another dress that already had rhinestones on it as closely as possible.

Jocelyn was also making a hat to go with the dress, and had to add fake flowers to the back. She glued them in place using the E6000 Glue that really keeps things in place.

Kat is a new hire in the costume shop. She has sewing experience, so was put right to work. Today she was sewing fringe onto some Spanish shawls just like Camille was doing last week. She also wasn't using any pins, but just laying it by hand to make the process faster. There is a very large number of shawls that need to be done, so this is very important to use the fastest method possible.

Kat was hemming some men's pants. The dancers had tried them on previously and the team had added a safety pin at the point where they needed to be shortened.

Claire was using this heated tool that is typically used to heat a certain type of rhinestone onto fabric. She was repurposing this tool in order to remove some glue on a previously used choker necklace to add different rhinestones to it to match the others that were being used for a dance number. It worked really well to help scrape off the left over glue to make room for the rhinestones that would replace the old.

Something fun that happened today was I was able to participate in the filling of accessory bags for the dancers. Claire was looking through the list of dancers and what accessories each of them need. We would then find the accessory bag for that person and place the correct accessory in the bag.

Once we had put the correct accessory in each bag for a specific person in a specific dance number, we laid them out and would look through them again for the next set of dancers in a number.

In the end, we had this large basket full of all the accessory bags for each dancer. We were waiting on Sister Knight to give us more instruction for a few accessories we needed to add, but did not know which specific accessory was needed.

Claire was also pulling out these gold shorts in the correct sizes for each dancer for a specific dance number, in which their dresses are the same color. Unfortunately we did not have the correct sizes, so we had to find the best closest fitting ones for each dancer.

It is very important to stay organized when it comes to putting together the costume bags and accessory bags for each dancer, so they have the right accessories and sizes needed. This is why keeping track of everything is so important.
