Shadowing Day 7

Today, Jocelyn and Kat were working on lining these piece of triangle sequined fabric with chiffon. The sequined fabric was quite opaque, so this added a little more structure and color. 

Adding the lining onto this fabric also helped it to blend in more with the fabric of the rest of the skirt that this piece would be used for. The pictured yellow skirt is part of a dress they are making. This yellow colored fabric will make up the majority of the dress. The smaller sequined piece will add a bit of pop to the dress when the skirt is lifted and it is revealed between the folded layers.

Abby was working on sewing yellow romantic style tutus. She was working on what they call the bosque. This is basically the waist band of a tutu. She marked lines on the bosque to know where she would end up sewing on the tulle layers onto the band.

Abby was making these tutus from scratch, so she has to use a lot of innovation and research to complete this. She had some background working with tutus before, but was able to grow her knowledge by watching tutorials and doing the math and measurements in order to pull this off. Part of the math for these tutus was to make sure the curve of the bosque on the back was accurate to the curve of the body. She then had to figure out how many yards each layer of tulle would need to be and how many layers she needed.

It was really great today because I was able to help Abby with the tulle she was prepping for the tutus. I helped to fold the layers and pin the folded sides in place so Abby could then steam them and have them ready for sewing onto the bosque. 

The last portion of the day involved checking up on the alterations and how they went from last week. The blouse that was mentioned before that had the side panel that was too narrow for the dancer, had been altered to include a larger stretch fabric piece. They put the blouse back on the dancer and found the fit was much better in the waist, but that the armpit area actually needed to be taken back in a little. But the fix ended up working great.

As preparations are being made for the Christmas show, the girls are working hard to make sure everything gets done in time and looks amazing for the performance.
