Presenting to Apparel Classes

This portion of my project has probably been one of my favorites. I was able to put together a slideshow presentation of the work and observations I’ve been doing in the Dance Costume Shop on campus, as well as talk about potential costuming careers that are available.

It was really satisfying to be able to compile my findings of how the processes work in the shop and what sort of specific tasks they complete and to be able to share that.

I put my presentation together with the idea to show what it would be like to work in the shop, what important aspects are present there, what skills can be learned, and how these skills can apply to a costuming career. I finished the presentation off by showing what career opportunities there are in the costuming industry, and what advice I would give in order to gain experience and be closer to the possibility of holding one of these types of positions in costuming.

The presentation I gave was about 10-15 minutes long and I made sure to include many of the pictures I’ve been documenting through this project. At the end of the presentation I opened it up to questions, and it was great to see some interest from the classes I presented to. I ended up presenting in two classes on campus, in Fitting and Alterations and in Fashion History.

It was a great experience and I loved being able to share the knowledge I’ve gained and hoped to get some of the apparel students on campus interested in the costuming industry.
